nl – ‘Direct water’ verbruik je dagelijks in en rondom het huis bijvoorbeeld tijdens het doorspoelen van het toilet. Het is zichtbaar water en gewonnen in Nederland. Virtueel water wordt verbruikt door het inkopen van producten waarvoor gedurende de productiecyclus water benodigd is. Voor de productie van één kilo chocolade is bijvoorbeeld ruim 17.000 liter water nodig. Dit water is onzichtbaar en wordt veelal verbruikt buiten Nederland. Zoet water is schaars op onze planeet en in Nederland verbruiken wij bijna twee keer zoveel water als de gemiddelde wereldburger.

De installatie ‘Indirect Invisible Water’ vergroot jouw waterbewustzijn over virtueel waterverbruik. Ga aan de slag met het ruimtelijk diagram om jouw persoonlijke watervoetafdruk te ervaren. Ontdek uit welke type water jouw afdruk is opgebouwd en bespreek verschillende handelingsperspectieven.

en – ‘Direct water’ is the water that everyone uses on a daily basis in and around the house: to shower, wash, and flush the toilet, for instance. This water is produced in the Netherlands and its consumption is visible and measurable. ‘Indirect water’, on the other hand, is more or less invisible. You consume it as a consumer of products that require water during the production cycle, products that usually come from outside the Netherlands. The production of one kilogram of chocolate, for example, requires more than 17,000 liters of water. The average Dutch person has a considerable water footprint and consumes almost twice as much water as the average world citizen.
